Van der Wiel tipped for Juve
A few months ago it was announced that Louis van Gaal was going to be given with a transfer budget of around €110 million so that he can improve his squad during the summer transfer window and one of his targets is Gregory van der Wiel of PSG - a man who has also closely been linked to a move to Turin giants Juventus.
The Brazilian player Rafael da Silva is the current right-back of Manchester United but Louis van Gaal wants to replace him with someone who can perform more consistently at a high level and all signs are pointing towards Gregory van der Wiel from the French club Paris Saint-Germain but signing him might be a problem for Manchester United as the 27 year old defender stated that he is happy with PSG and has no desire or reason to leave the club.
Gregory van der Wiel denied any rumors that were linking him with a move away from PSG as the Dutch defender said: "I am genuinely happy at PSG. I love the club, I love the city and I love my team-mates. Everything is perfect for me here. There is absolutely no reason for me to leave. I want to sign a new contract. If the coach decides not to play me, that is his decision. But I am ready whenever I am called upon."
Even if Gregory van der Wiel is not interested in leaving, if Manchester United launched a good enough offer for the player then it might be enough to entice PSG on offloading the right-back who has entered the radar of Louis van Gaal as a potential player who can succeed Rafael da Silva and perform in the position of the Brazilian defender.
If they put an offer in, they can expect stern competition from the Old Lady, who are also chasing top quality defensive replacements, with their Champions League Prize money burning a hole in their pockets (though they may have less than they would have hoped for if they lose the match to Barcelona - they are currently rank outsiders to land the title according to the latest Champions League betting).
Daniel Alves is another player who is being rumored with a number of clubs and Manchester United is one of them but it’s doubtful if Louis van Gaal is interested in signing a player who is 31 years old.
