Luis Suarez claims Tevez to be reason to move to Liverpool
Barcelona forward Luis Suarez claims that Carlos Tevez was the reason – although indirectly – behind this move to Liverpool.
Tevez did not play for Liverpool, but he was a huge success in the Premier League after representing clubs like West Ham, Manchester United, and Manchester City. He went on to lift the league and Champions League medals during his time in English football. However, not many expected the Argentine striker to be a success in England since he was of a small physical stature going up against tall and well equipped central defenders. His low centre of gravity, however, became the crucial element in getting success.
Suarez claims that the success achieved by Tevez has been a huge inspiration for him. The Uruguayan forward has revealed his doubts whether he would be successful in England prior to the move to Liverpool. However, he was able to get a lot of confidence from the way Tevez was able to successfully negotiate the physical league. Suarez was right in his judgement as he proved to be a huge success at Merseyside. After making the £ 75 million switch to Barcelona almost 2 years ago, he has improved even further. He has just been crowned as the top goal scorer in Spanish football after getting beyond Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
"When I was playing at Ajax, it was Carlitos Tevez who inspired me to try to play in the Premier League. I would watch him and I would think, 'If Carlitos can do that, why can't I? He is tiny against all those defenders.' The entire team deserves the credit for my streak. Now my teammates look for me because they know I am in the running. Leo [Messi] and Ney[mar] give me the penalty kicks. That shows that the team sees what I am capable of over these last few games and they want me to score," said Suarez.
