Gus Poyet Says Carlos Tevez Needs Time to Settle in China
Carlos Tevez recently became the world’s highest-paid player after sealing a £ 600,000 per week contract with Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League.
This insane amount of money even convinced the Boca Juniors striker to leave his hometown club. Tevez went through a lot of difficulties in order to complete a move to Boca Juniors a few years ago. He began his career with the Argentine club and Tevez was intent on retiring with Boca.
However, the surprise interest from Shanghai Shenhua led to the striker making the move to the relatively unknown Chinese super league, but for a massive £600,000 per week or £30 million per year contract.
In doing so, Tevez has become the best paid player in the world ahead of names like Rooney and Paul Pogba. He has even been able to overtake Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, two players who are seen as receiving the highest salaries in the mainstream European leagues.
Both players receive around £ 330,000 per week. Even though Tevez earns a lot, there have been suggestions that he has failed to settle in Shanghai. Several language problems appear to be a barrier, while climate also seems to be one of the reasons. Manager Gus Poyet, however, expects the striker to come good sooner rather than later.
“The main problems for Tevez is language and food. Same as me, he can’t speak Chinese and he needs a translator all the time or he won’t be able to communicate with others.Fortunately he can speak a little Italian and English. Last week, he had a BBQ with [Colombian teammates Fredy] Guarin and [Giovanni] Moreno, except that, he hasn’t tried any Chinese food yet. He needs a lot of time to adapt to Chinese food,” said Poyet. His performances on the pitch have been reasonable with a goal and two assists in his debut game.
